A major feature of Customizable Westlaw is the ability to “drag” a database or database group and “drop” it elsewhere on the page. No fancy steps to follow: Just slide it over!

But did you know that you can drag a database or database group to another Customizable Westlaw page? It’s a great way to keep database(s) at your fingertips for quick and easy use.

For example, suppose you want to copy the Combined World Journals and Law Reviews (WORLD-JLR) database from your World Journals tab your International Trade tab for quick usage.  Click and hold your mouse over the Combined World Journals and Law Reviews database, then drag and drop onto the International Trade tab. Next simply click onto the International Trade tab and you will notice then new database listed as “recently added”. You can then move the group to a new location on the page, if you desire.

Note: You cannot drag an item to a tabbed page unless it’s a Customizable Westlaw page.  Please contact your Westlaw Trainer (william.p.white@thomsonreuters.com) for more details.

ALL International customers will have Customizable Westlaw activated on Monday AM, July 6, CST. The switch will occur on Sunday evening CST.  Users will experience no change if they are on the system during the switch; however, they will see the new experience the next time they log in to Westlaw.  A tutorial option will show up with your next sign on, however, you are encouraged to schedule a live demonstration with your Westlaw Trainer.  Contact William White at 852 3762 3242 or william.p.white@thomsonreuters.com to set up an appointment.  Our next posting will highlight how Custom Tabs will change how you do legal research!

Further to the recent Civil Justice Reform in Hong Kong and the publication of the New Rules of the High Court in the Special Volume of the Hong Kong White Book and the subsequent Volume 4 also containing the new rules plus commentary on the new rules; the new rules have now been published on Westlaw HK.

The practice of law in the People’s Republic of China can be a challenge for any lawyer working on behalf of companies doing business with Chinese companies.

We recently talked with Owen D. Nee Jr., of Jones Day for a podcast. (Listen to audio).

China now the world’s third-largest economy and the recipient of more foreign investment each year than any other country, can be intimidating.  Its business laws and the practice of deal-making have long been a source of confusion of mystery.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Nee told us the failure of many joint ventures is linked to the basic misunderstandings of the deal-making process, which too often occurs because the investor or its lawyer fail to study the applicable legal ground rules.

Nee wrote the new Shareholder Agreements and Joint Ventures in China, and co-authored Mergers and Acquisitions in China with Jingzhou Tao, Partner at Jones Day.  Both titles are part of the new China Law Library from Sweet & Maxwell.
